Live Interactive Workshops: Performance, CSS, and UX in Depth

Smashing Magazine has announced a new slate of online workshops covering front-end and UX disciplines, spanning web performance, interface design, psychology, and modern CSS. Featured speakers include Lea Verou, Harry Roberts, Stephanie Eckles, and Dan Mall, with sessions scheduled from March through July.

The workshops are designed for real-time participation, not passive viewing. Attendees join live sessions spread across multiple days, with each day broken into 2.5-hour blocks. Every session reserves room for direct Q&A, alongside practical demonstrations and techniques. Video recordings and slides are provided after each session, so participants can review material they missed or want to revisit.

Over 2,000 people have already taken part in Smashing's online workshops, joining from locations spanning Montevideo, Delhi, Perth, Cape Town, and Austin. The format is built around the reality of screen fatigue: sessions are structured to allow digestion of content, discussion, and questions without rushing. The environment is deliberately inclusive, with space for attendees to think and receive feedback.

How the Workshop Format Works

Recognizing that long stretches in front of a screen can be draining, Smashing has reworked its online workshop experience from the ground up. Instead of cramming content into marathon sessions, workshops span multiple days, split into 2.5-hour blocks. This gives attendees time to absorb what they've learned, try techniques on their own, and return with thoughtful questions.

The sessions are interactive rather than lecture-style. Attendees can engage in live conversations, take on challenges, and collaborate in small groups. Materials and video recordings are included with registration, making it possible to catch up immediately if a session is missed.
