Figma Ships Full Brazilian Portuguese Localization
Figma has completed a full product localization for Brazilian Portuguese, making it the fourth language supported on the platform after Japanese, Spanish, and Korean. The rollout includes complete interface translation, culturally adapted UI, and Portuguese-language support, with availability set for May 7. A Latin American Spanish localization is planned for later this year.
“Our mission is to make design accessible to everyone, which means breaking down language barriers. Adding Brazilian Portuguese to our growing list of supported languages allows us to better serve our global community,” says Yuhki Yamashita, Chief Product Officer at Figma.
The move follows significant adoption in Brazil. More than a third of companies listed on Brazil's Ibovespa index use Figma, including major enterprises such as iFood, Itaú Unibanco, Nubank, and TOTVS. In the past year, Brazilian users created nearly 5.5 million Figma files, with an average of more than 85,000 files edited daily across the country. The São Paulo chapter of Friends of Figma has close to 1,000 active members, making it Brazil's largest.
Brazil is part of a broader global shift for the company: approximately 85% of monthly active users in Q4 2024 were outside the U.S., and over 50% of 2024 revenue came from non-U.S. markets. Around two-thirds of Q4 2024 monthly active users identified outside traditional design roles, and roughly 30% self-identified as developers.
Product Expansion Ahead of Config
The localization coincides with Figma's annual Config conference, where the company announced a new lineup of products and AI enhancements. New offerings include Figma Make, a prompt-to-code AI tool for turning written descriptions or existing designs into working prototypes; Figma Sites, for building and publishing dynamic websites; Figma Draw, a set of enhanced vector editing tools within Figma Design; and Figma Buzz, aimed at brand and marketing teams producing on-brand visual assets at scale.
In addition, Figma announced advanced image generation and editing capabilities, contextual auto-suggest features, new AI tools for FigJam, and Grid, a responsive layout option that can generate CSS code in Dev Mode for easier design-to-dev handoff.
These products build on existing tools within Figma's ecosystem, including Figma Design for prototyping, FigJam for online whiteboarding, Dev Mode for connecting design and code, and Figma Slides for interactive presentations.
Customer Response
Companies with substantial Brazilian operations welcomed the localization. Fabricio Dore, Experience and Design Director at Itaú Unibanco, said the tool has become essential to daily workflows, and full Portuguese localization “takes out friction and democratizes access for even more collaborators.” Mercado Libre's UX Ops & Research Director, Facundo Ruiz, described the move as creating “a more welcoming and intuitive experience for our Brazilian teams.”
Débora Mioranzza, Head of Latin America at Figma, stressed the local community's role: “We've already seen exciting use cases here despite language barriers, and now we're removing that final obstacle.”
The new products and features will begin rolling out to users in the coming weeks, with the Portuguese localization arriving first on May 7. Figma continues to serve customers ranging from Brazilian enterprises to international firms including Airbnb, Google, Puma, SAP, and Volkswagen.
