FedRAMP Moderate approval opens Figma to federal work
Figma has received Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) certification at the Moderate level. The approval means the company’s full suite—Figma, FigJam, and Dev Mode, with Figma Slides expected to follow—is now available to federal agencies through the Figma for Government offering. The designation signals that the platform meets the government’s security and privacy standards, allowing public sector teams to use the tools for designing websites, applications, and other citizen-facing digital services.
Why the public sector needs dedicated design tooling
Federal policy increasingly pushes agencies toward digital-first experiences that are streamlined, accessible, and consistent. But without the right tools, workflows fragment, which harms both team efficiency and the quality of the end product. Figma for Government aims to address that by providing the same collaborative design and prototyping tools used by commercial organizations, housed in an isolated environment with encryption and a DNSSEC-secured domain name system.
The offering grew out of existing grassroots adoption: more than 100 government agencies and contractors already use Figma to modernize processes, from brainstorming through implementation. Notable examples include the National Park Service, which built an all-in-one app to help visitors navigate its 431 parks, and Amtrak, which streamlined its design systems for over 20,000 employees and 28 million passengers. Agencies such as the U.S. State Department, the IRS, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services also rely on Figma to standardize and manage passport, visa, taxpayer, and citizenship services.
A key resource is the official United States Web Design System (USWDS) design kit, which includes 42 components built with variables and smart layouts. It gives teams a starting point for consistent, brand-compliant designs without reinventing common patterns.
