A New SmashingConf for Design and UX
Smashing Magazine is launching a brand-new conference focused on design and UX. SmashingConf Antwerp takes place October 9–11, 2023, at the Bourla Schouwburg theatre in Antwerp, Belgium. What to Expect
SmashingConf has always centered on the practical realities of work — how teams succeed, how they fail, and how they improve. Speakers are encouraged to share their processes, not just their results. That might mean walking through a design workflow on stage or opening a Figma board and designing live with the audience. The goal is to skip abstract, big-picture talks in favor of honest, hands-on lessons you can take back to your own projects.
The conference also fosters a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Speakers remain approachable throughout the event, with time set aside for one-on-one conversations and round-table discussions. Attendees often come back year after year, and the organizers intentionally design side events to encourage respectful, meaningful interaction.
The venue itself is part of the experience. Bourla Schouwburg is a neoclassical theatre built in the 1820s, decorated with statues of Apollo and the nine muses, and situated in the heart of Antwerp. It's an intentional contrast between classic architecture and modern digital craftsmanship. Alongside the talks, expect side events, morning runs, riddles, design challenges, and walking tours.
