24 artifacts that define craft
Figma asked members of the design community to pick an artifact that embodies craft — something that captures what it means to make with intention. Their answers range from a vintage puzzle box and a perfectly tuned guitar to an AI-powered poetry camera, a precisely mixed daiquiri, and even a spreadsheet that lingers in muscle memory.
Each artifact tells a story, not just about the object itself, but about the choices behind it: what to refine, what to leave raw, when to push forward, and when to let go. Whether built to last for generations or designed to delight in a fleeting moment, the common thread is clear — great craft doesn’t happen by accident.
These artifacts are collected in Practice, a book on design and craft by Figma’s Story Studio and Brand Studio teams. The print edition, launched at Config 2025, was designed by Other Means in collaboration with type designer Kia Tasbihgou.
