Another PostgreSQL operator arrives, this time focused on multi-site Kubernetes
Kubernetes operators for PostgreSQL are a crowded field: CloudNativePG, the Zalando postgres-operator, Crunchy PGO, and StackGres are all credited with shaping the ecosystem.
The CYBERTEC PG Operator is a new entrant, and its stated reason for existing is multi-site PostgreSQL, alongside other capabilities. It covers the lifecycle management you would expect from a Kubernetes operator, but puts its emphasis on running PostgreSQL across multiple Kubernetes locations via Multi-site Clusters.
Those clusters are aimed at what happens once PostgreSQL leaves a single Kubernetes environment. The operator bundles cross-site replication, automated failover, validated deployment models, architecture guidance, and operational documentation around them.
The project is open source, built on proven PostgreSQL technologies, and backed by CYBERTEC's PostgreSQL expertise. Its authors say they are looking forward to community feedback and contributions, and point to the repository at https://github.com/cybertec-postgresql/CYBERTEC-pg-operator.
