Dropbox Ships v1-to-v2 API Migration Guide
Dropbox has published a migration guide to help developers move existing apps from API v1 to API v2. The guide is available now in the "References" section of the Dropbox Platform homepage.
The guide covers the full scope of changes required for a v2 migration, including a mapping of v1 functionality to v2 equivalents, syntax changes, and new platform features developers need to account for. Dropbox is soliciting feedback on the guide via comments on the announcement or questions on the API Development forum.
Why Move to v2 Now
All new Dropbox API functionality—including enhanced sharing and search features announced with the v2 launch—will only be added to API v2. Apps still on v1 will not receive access to these capabilities, so upgrading now ensures users benefit from the latest Dropbox integrations.
Remaining Gaps and Hybrid Mode
Most applications can complete a full migration to v2 today. For apps that rely on functionality not yet supported in v2, Dropbox points developers to the guide's hybrid mode section, which allows migration work to begin while v1 remains operative.
Before retiring v1, Dropbox plans to document migration flows for the following open issues:
- Supported functionality or equivalent workarounds for
/team/log/get_events. - Objective-C SDK, expected August 2016.
- Other SDKs (PHP, Ruby, etc.): see the community SDK page, and use Stone to build an SDK in the language of your choice.
