Enterprise accounts arrive for all GitHub Enterprise customers
GitHub has begun rolling out enterprise accounts to all of its Enterprise customers, a move that gives every organization on the platform access to a unified management layer. The rollout, first announced in December 2022, is happening in phases. New Enterprise customers now get an enterprise account as part of their setup, while existing customers with a single organization and no enterprise account will see a free upgrade to their entitled account appear over the coming months.
The enterprise account serves as the central control plane for managing users and organizations at scale. It brings together administrative functions with GitHub's enterprise-wide innersource features, giving organizations access to tools such as GitHub Actions, the security overview dashboard, and audit log streaming. The account layer also unlocks paid add-ons, including GitHub Advanced Security and GitHub Copilot.
What the unified experience means
With this change, every Enterprise customer starts from the same point regardless of how they initially signed up. The goal is a consistent experience where no matter the entry path, teams can use the newest capabilities the platform offers. GitHub says the upgrade for existing single-organization customers will be gradual and could take several months to reach every account, asking for patience as it progresses.
