Action needed by GitHub Connect customers using GHES 3.1 and older to adopt new authentication token format updates

GitHub Connect to Drop Support for Older Enterprise Server Releases

GitHub has reminded customers that the authentication token format changes announced last year will soon force a minimum version requirement for GitHub Connect. As of June 3, 2022, GitHub Connect will no longer work with GitHub Enterprise Server (GHES) 3.1 or older.

The token format updates affect several credential types:

• Personal access tokens
• OAuth Access Tokens
• GitHub App user-to-server tokens
• GitHub App server-to-server tokens
• Refresh tokens

Organizations running GHES 3.1 or older must upgrade to GHES 3.2 or newer by the June 3 deadline to keep using GitHub Connect. The service is required for features like Dependabot updates, license sync, GitHub.com Actions synchronization, and unified contributions.
