Svelte’s creator joins Vercel full-time
Rich Harris, the developer behind the Svelte framework, is now working at Vercel. The move gives Svelte its first full-time, dedicated maintainer while keeping the project independent and open-source; its governance and community remain unchanged.
Svelte has seen rapid adoption recently, with weekly downloads surpassing 200,000 and more than 50,000 GitHub stars. Vercel’s backing is intended to let Harris scale his efforts and push the framework further than part-time maintenance would allow.
Vercel’s stated direction for Svelte is Edge-first development, blending the strengths of traditional server-rendered apps with those of single-page applications. The company calls this approach “transitional apps,” aiming for a strong user experience alongside an efficient developer workflow.
