Hydrogen gets a ground-up rebuild with Vercel
Shopify is partnering with Vercel on a complete rewrite of Hydrogen, its framework for headless storefronts. The upcoming version is open source and runtime agnostic, running anywhere JavaScript does and working with Next.js, Nuxt, Svelte, or another framework of the developer's choosing.
The rebuilt framework bakes in storefront best practices out of the box. Type-safe API clients and cart state come via a single import, eliminating the custom glue code that previously tied storefronts together. A new feature lets developers add Skills so agents can extend any storefront with one command.
Retailer Paige is already seeing the payoff: feature development that once stretched for months now lands in about a week.
