Payment Links expands with multi-item pages, more payment methods, and an API
Stripe’s no-code Payment Links product has become a popular on-ramp for businesses that want to start selling without building payments infrastructure: more than 100,000 businesses in 40+ countries have used it. Since launch, it has picked up subscriptions, promotion codes, free trials, tax handling, phone number collection, upsells, store policy pages, and customizable confirmation screens. Today the product takes two bigger steps: new features aimed at increasing revenue per customer, and a programmatic API for automating link creation at scale.
Higher order values without code
Until now, a single Payment Link could only sell one product or subscription and could only accept card payments. That constraint is gone. The new tools are designed to push average order value up and make the payment page work better for customers outside the US.
- Multiple line items: A single payment page can now carry several products or subscriptions, so customers can add more to a single transaction.
- Adjustable quantities: Sellers can let customers change quantity per product, with configurable minimum and maximum limits.
- More payment methods: Any of the 20+ methods enabled in the Dashboard can appear on a Payment Link. Payment method order is auto-adjusted based on the customer's device and location to maximize conversion.
A new API for programmatic link creation
The most-requested Payment Links feature was the ability to generate links via API. That capability is now available, enabling workflows that were previously manual:
- Send cart abandonment emails where each link is pre-populated with the exact items the customer left behind.
- Connect Payment Links to CRM systems so sales reps can instantly generate and share custom links with prospects.
- Create unique links for affiliate partners to promote products, with tracking per partner.
Platforms and marketplaces can also expose link generation inside their own dashboards via the Stripe Connect integration, letting end customers collect payments through channels they control. Swapstack, a newsletter sponsorship marketplace, uses the Payment Links API to let creators embed tip-collection links in newsletters, posts, and live events.
Getting started
Links can be created in three ways: directly in the Stripe Dashboard, through no-code automation tools like Zapier, or programmatically via the API. Existing users can also send feedback to [email protected].
