Modernizing a global expense platform
Emburse, which manages travel and expense operations for more than 12 million users across 120 countries, was held back by a legacy stack. High costs, platform complexity, and performance limitations made it difficult for the marketing team to launch campaigns and update content efficiently. The existing system also lacked the localization support needed for Emburse's multilingual, multi-region presence.
To address these constraints, Emburse teamed up with Rangle, a digital transformation consultancy and Vercel Expert. The collaboration resulted in a new architecture built on Vercel, Next.js, and Sanity, allowing Emburse to launch 1,550 pages and achieve measurable performance gains.
The new stack
- Sanity: Provides flexible content management with straightforward localization across languages.
- Next.js: Improves site performance and overall user experience.
- Vercel: Delivers fast builds and secure deployments with an emphasis on developer experience.
Faster pages, better rankings
The rebuilt site on Next.js and Vercel loads four times faster than the previous version. This speed improvement is reflected in an Interaction to Next Paint (INP) under 200ms and overall performance that outperforms 99% of websites globally. The scalable architecture also contributed to improved search rankings.
The migration also freed the marketing team from developer dependency. They now manage and update content independently, launching promotions in multiple languages without engineering support, which speeds up campaign timelines and site updates.
