Supporting the Maintainers Behind the Software We Depend On

Modern development is built on a foundation of open source projects maintained by communities that invest their time in building and sharing tools. Vercel's Open Source Program is designed to support those groups by providing maintainers with resources and support to continue their work.

The program operates on a quarterly cohort basis. Each selected project receives $3,600 in Vercel platform credits, a starter pack containing credits from third-party services, and direct guidance from Vercel and the broader community.

Today marks the start of a new cohort.

Component libraries and UI tooling

The Spring 2026 cohort spans a wide range of UI-focused projects, many built around the shadcn ecosystem. Sync UI offers a free React library with 125+ animated components, 13+ pre-built blocks, and three premium templates, built with Material UI and motion/react. Componentry takes a copy-paste approach with animated components styled in Tailwind CSS and Framer Motion, designed to be dropped into existing apps rather than installed as a dependency. For icon work, AnimateIcons provides 281 animated SVG icons for React with hover and imperative triggers, distributable via npm, CLI, shadcn registry, or an MCP server.

Reshaped pairs a React component library with a matching Figma library, including headless components and framework-agnostic utilities. Iconiq offers shadcn/ui primitives with subtle motion animations, while Bklit UI distributes chart and utility components through a shadcn registry, complete with an interactive Studio playground for tweaking charts and exporting generated code. shadcnpreset is a fork of the shadcn/ui monorepo that layers a Next.js app onto the upstream CLI and registry, letting users search and preview presets in plain English before installing via the shadcn CLI.

Outside the React ecosystem, Svelte AI Elements ports Vercel AI Elements to SvelteKit using shadcn-svelte, providing components for chat apps, reasoning UIs, and workflow builders. open-slide is a React slide framework built for AI coding agents, where decks render to a fixed 1920×1080 canvas and components are generated from natural language prompts; it includes an in-browser inspector, presenter mode, asset manager, and static HTML/PDF export.

Developer tools and infrastructure

Several projects target the MCP ecosystem. xmcp is a TypeScript framework for building and deploying MCP servers with file-system routing, hot reloading, middleware, and zero-config Vercel deployment. On the security side, Tirith is a Rust-based terminal tool that intercepts shell commands, pasted content, and files before execution, blocking homograph URLs, pipe-to-shell attacks, ANSI injection, and obfuscated payloads via 80+ detection rules and a signed threat intelligence database. Caracal provides an authority and delegation system for AI agents with scoped, short-lived, revocable credentials.

Tabularis is an Apache 2.0-licensed database client for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, and SQLite, built with React and Rust/Tauri; it includes SQL notebooks, visual EXPLAIN, a built-in MCP server for AI agents, and a plugin system for additional databases. Claude-Mem adds persistent memory to Claude Code and other agents by compressing session activity into semantic summaries that get injected into future sessions.

Multiple Cucumber HTML Reporter converts Cucumber JSON output into interactive HTML reports with a dashboard, dark mode, and multi-run consolidation. PayRoutes is a unified TypeScript SDK that abstracts multiple payment providers behind a consistent API. For test reports and payments alike, the goal is reducing integration friction.

Content, education, and automation

The cohort includes several learning-focused projects. AI Engineering from Scratch is an MIT-licensed curriculum spanning 503 lessons across 20 phases, from math foundations to production deployment, with learners building algorithms from scratch before using production frameworks. bestJavaer is a lab documenting AI-assisted coding workflows and agent experiments for Chinese-speaking developers.Zoonk is an interactive learning platform built with TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Prisma, and Tailwind CSS.

For research, Artifact is an MIT-licensed workspace that pairs an AI assistant with support for arXiv, uploaded documents, and website links. Notra connects to GitHub, Linear, and Slack to automatically turn merged PRs and closed issues into publishable changelog and social media drafts.

Marketing Skills bundles AI agent skills for conversion optimization, copywriting, SEO, analytics, and growth engineering. taste-skill offers portable Agent Skills for AI coding tools that improve generated frontend interfaces—layout, typography, motion, spacing—plus image-generation skills for reference boards. A satirical entry, performative-ui is an npm package with AI-native React components designed to signal how oversubscribed your funding round is.

Specialized tools

Beyond the UI and AI categories, a few projects stand out for distinct use cases. ASCII Studio converts video frames in real time to ASCII representations with adjustable density, contrast, and character sets. AST Explorer is a web tool for inspecting abstract syntax trees across JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, HTML, JSON, Markdown, YAML, Rust, and more, with Monaco Editor integration and URL-based sharing.

brepjs is a TypeScript library for exact B-Rep CAD modeling in JavaScript, supporting precise booleans, real measurements, and STEP export without relying on triangle meshes. ShieldCN generates README badges that render as real shadcn/ui Button components via Satori, supporting npm, GitHub, Discord, and other providers with a CLI and Docker self-hosting. Rallly is an open-source scheduling tool built with Next.js, Prisma, tRPC, and TailwindCSS that coordinates group meetings through simple polls.

Several projects also change how developers interact with existing content. Nextly is a TypeScript-first CMS and app framework for Next.js with in-code or visual content schemas, typed REST and Direct APIs, and pluggable database and storage adapters. Claude-Mem and taste-skill both target the increasingly important role of context and design quality in AI-assisted development workflows.

Open source keeps the web moving

Vercel has announced the spring 2026 cohort of its Open Source Program. Selected projects receive support to continue development and maintain their contributions to the wider developer ecosystem.

The program accepts applications on a quarterly cycle, with new cohorts selected four times a year. Projects in the program get backing from Vercel as they build and ship their work.
