GitHub Universe 2022 opens its full session lineup
GitHub has published the complete agenda for GitHub Universe 2022, its annual developer conference taking place November 9 and 10. The event spans more than 80 sessions organized into four tracks—cloud, security, community, and AI—across both in-person and virtual formats. Attendees can register for either the on-site event in San Francisco or the live online experience, with on-demand video access available after the event for sessions they miss.
Early-bird pricing remains in effect through October 15, offering a 20% discount on in-person tickets via the registration page.
Day one: platform, security, and AI
The opening keynote, delivered by GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke from the Yerba Buena Stage, will cover the evolving nature of software development and how GitHub's platform supports developers and enterprises. GitHub leadership will join to discuss announcements planned for the session.
Several sessions on day one focus on GitHub's own engineering practices. Greg Ose, Senior Director of Product Security Engineering at GitHub, will present "How GitHub uses GitHub to secure GitHub," walking through how the company's security team leverages the platform for workflows that embed security operations into the tools engineers already use.
A session on Codespaces will demonstrate how developers can launch any GitHub repository with compute, terminal access, and personalized editor configurations in a single click. April Leonard, Staff Software Engineering Manager at GitHub, will cover how the feature supports faster coding through isolated, secure developer environments.
The virtual track includes a session from Seth Juarez on GitHub Copilot's effect on developer happiness, exploring how the AI pair programmer goes beyond productivity gains to improve developer experience and satisfaction.
Day two: community, research, and enterprise adoption
Stormy Peters, VP Communities at GitHub, will present a session on software's role in humanitarian and scientific progress. The talk will profile people and projects behind major societal, environmental, and cultural initiatives, from humanitarian efforts to aerospace research.
A technical session from Tony Torralba, Software Engineer at GitHub, details how his team added Kotlin analysis support to CodeQL, GitHub's code scanning engine. The presentation covers how the team validated the implementation by finding real vulnerabilities in five popular open source Android projects, how those vulnerabilities were modeled as CodeQL queries, and how the findings were communicated to maintainers for fixes.
Two panel discussions round out day two. The first brings OSPO experts from F5, Google, Spotify, Fannie Mae, and the CHAOSS project together to examine how data informs open source program office decisions today and how it might shape future strategy. The second panel, led by GitHub's Virginia Bryant, features leaders from Fidelity, Itau, and Vodafone discussing how GitHub Enterprise Cloud serves large, regulated enterprises across industries.
