CYBERTEC Scalefield is a PostgreSQL infrastructure platform built on Kubernetes. It supports PostgreSQL 14 through 18 and exposes both a web UI and an API for deploying, managing and operating clusters. The idea is to turn a Kubernetes cluster into a managed PostgreSQL hosting environment while keeping control over where data lives and who operates it.

Scalefield is not itself a database product. It is the layer used to deploy and run PostgreSQL databases alongside related products: CYBERTEC PostgreSQL Enterprise Edition, CYBERTEC Migrator, CYBERTEC Cypex, and Babelfish for PostgreSQL.

Release 1.30.0

Three areas changed in this version: database health checks, service lifecycle control, and the Cypex service.

Advice insights

Health checks can now be run against PostgreSQL and PGEE services, with the results shown in a new Advice tab. Every insight comes with a detailed explanation plus a suggested fix and a copyable script.

Start and stop services

PostgreSQL services can be started and stopped from the Overview tab. For dev and test environments that do not need to run continuously, these controls replace the workaround of scaling replicas to zero.

Cypex service changes

  • Backup configuration — dedicated backup settings are available from the Backup tab and during service creation.
  • Connection credentials — application connection credentials are visible in the Overview tab.
  • Application UI access — the Application tab has been removed; the Cypex app now opens in a new browser tab with a single click from the Overview tab.

Instances configured with SSO also get a cleaner login layout, and the preferred login method is remembered so subsequent logins take one click.

Groundwork in 1.23.0

Anyone catching up on the platform should also know what 1.23.0 introduced:

  • Automated PostgreSQL in-place upgrades — major versions can be upgraded from the platform without rebuilding clusters.
  • Point-in-time cluster restore — a cluster can be restored to any specific moment rather than only the last backup.
  • Single-IP multi-service support — multiple Kubernetes services can be served from one public IP across different ports.
  • Enhanced ACL management — more flexible access control rules for cluster connections.
  • PostgreSQL 18 support — full compatibility from day one.

Documentation for the platform is available at the Scalefield docs site.
