GitHub Education Opens Campus Experts Applications for 2021

GitHub Education is now accepting applications for the next cohort of its Campus Experts Program. The initiative is part of GitHub's broader effort to help build technical communities and support emerging student talent worldwide. Applications will be accepted through February 28, 2021.

Campus Experts are student leaders who create welcoming, inclusive spaces on their campuses where peers can collaborate on projects and learn from one another. Their work involves cultivating local developer communities and helping fellow students acquire practical industry skills, connect with opportunities, and prepare for careers in software development.

The program aims to support both students who already run campus communities and those starting from the ground up. Accepted applicants receive access to GitHub Campus Experts training, resources, and ongoing support to help them organize impactful campus events. The program also offers participation in GitHub's first-party events and entry into a global network of student leaders.

Who Can Apply

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Verify student status through the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary formal education institution.
  • Have been a GitHub user for at least six months.

Application Process

The application is a two-stage process. Candidates first submit an application form outlining the challenges and opportunities they see in their campus community. Those who advance to the second stage are asked to provide a video resume, giving organizers a better sense of who they are. The program is looking for students who can articulate obstacles, potential improvements, and concrete ways to build a vibrant developer community on campus. A basic smartphone or computer setup is all that's required for the video portion.

Students interested in applying should first obtain their GitHub Student Developer Pack if they haven't already, then submit their application via the official application site.
