Cloudflare's Largest Single-Country Expansion Targets Brazil

After two years of behind-the-scenes work, Cloudflare is announcing a partnership with one of Brazil's largest ISPs to establish a presence in 25+ cities across the country. This represents one of the most significant simultaneous single-country expansions the company has undertaken. The deployment is already yielding measurable improvements: the 25th-percentile latency of non-bot traffic—a metric Cloudflare uses as a proxy for physical distance between servers and end users—has dropped from the mid-20 millisecond range to under 10 milliseconds.

This improvement extends beyond the 25 million Internet properties on Cloudflare's network. Services such as 1.1.1.1 and WARP also benefit, meaning the impact is felt across the broader Internet ecosystem, not just among Cloudflare's direct customers.

Latency is expected to continue decreasing as additional cities come online, with throughput gains following the same trend.

Current Deployments and Roadmap

The expansion is already live in six cities: Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, and Fortaleza. The next wave will add presences in Manaus, São Paulo, Blumenau, Joinville, Florianópolis, Itajai, Belém, Goiânia, Salvador, São José do Rio Preto, Americana, and Sorocaba.

Further out, Cloudflare plans to extend into Guarulhos, Mogi das Cruzes, São José dos Campos, Vitória, Londrina, Maringá, Campina Grande, Caxias do Sul, Cuiabá, Lajeado, Natal, Recife, Osasco, Santo André, and Rio. Once the full rollout is complete, Cloudflare's footprint in Brazil will have grown by a factor of 12 to 16.

The move targets geographic reach rather than concentration in major population centers. Users in São Paulo and those near the Amazon rainforest in Manaus alike will see improvements. The partnership is framed as part of Cloudflare's broader goal of delivering consistent Internet performance and developer experience regardless of market size or location.
