A Partner Ecosystem Shaped Around DevOps

GitHub’s partner ecosystem has grown considerably over the past year, with technology and service providers extending the platform’s capabilities across automation, security, and enterprise transformation. At GitHub Universe 2020, the company highlighted how these collaborations have expanded the options available to developers and customers alike.

GitHub Actions, which the company says became the number one CI solution on GitHub across public and private repositories earlier this year, has seen significant traction among partners. Usage of partners’ actions in developer workflows increased by more than 330% in just seven months since GitHub Satellite. These integrations are available through the GitHub Marketplace, allowing teams to automate manual processes and tailor their end-to-end development experience.

Beyond tooling, service partners are helping organizations treat DevOps as a broader business transformation—one that encompasses culture and process change. These partners provide the expertise needed to implement sustainable practices that help enterprises build software collaboratively on GitHub.

Security Integrations Expand

With the September launch of code scanning, GitHub introduced a range of third-party integrations, including Anchore and Bridgecrew. The extensibility of code scanning allows teams to orchestrate security reviews throughout the software development lifecycle. More than 16 integrations have yielded dozens of new actions and several apps, enabling developers to work with security tools that fit their business needs within the native GitHub experience. Service partners are also investing in security practices to help customers evaluate and address compliance requirements.

GitHub’s Tech for Social Good program continues to partner with the United Nations and social sector organizations worldwide, aiming to support developers building solutions for pressing global issues.

In India, IBM and GitHub have launched a nationwide tech challenge inviting developers to design remote voting solutions for the world’s largest democracy. IBM provides blockchain technology for e-voting, while GitHub offers mentoring and the platform on which to build.

Several partners shared their thoughts on working with GitHub, citing the platform’s role in developer velocity, security, and DevOps adoption.

Avanade: Craig Wood, Executive of Software Engineering, notes that GitHub’s enterprise platform helps organizations bring developer experience in-house, with Avanade providing expertise to ensure large enterprises benefit. He points to a global skills crisis and GitHub’s 56 million developers as key context.
Cognizant: Estoban Garcia, VP of the Cognizant Microsoft Business Group, highlights the group’s formation through acquisitions of New Signature and 10th Magnitude, both GitHub Verified partners. The group has also published one of the first security offerings built around GitHub Advanced Security, emphasizing InnerSourcing and advanced security tooling.
Datadog: Ilan Rabinovitch, VP of Product & Community, emphasizes the value of the GitHub Actions and Datadog Continuous Profiler integration, offering point-and-click insight into code performance during development.
DevOpsGroup: Stephen Thair, Chief Product Officer, believes DevOps adoption accelerates developer velocity and maximizes cloud ROI while reducing burnout. He cites GitHub Actions and InnerSource as technical and cultural tools, with joint go-to-market activities reaching wider audiences.
Eficode: Marko Klemetti, CTO, notes that GitHub Verified Partner status confirms the company’s deep knowledge, combined with Azure DevOps Gold Partnership and 15+ years of DevOps experience.
IBM: Chris Ferris, CTO of Open Source, says working with GitHub to support an open developer community and automate information flow between developers and operations helps clients innovate with lower risk.
ilegra: Gustavo Mantese, Head of Marketing, sees the partnership as strategic for differentiating technology solutions and reinforcing brand attraction.
Infosys: Gautam Khanna, VP and Head of Modernization Practice, says cloud-native GitHub offerings align with client cloud adoption roadmaps, with GitHub Actions playing a role in modernization programs.
Lightstep: Ben Cronin, Co-Founder and COO, describes Lightstep as the first partner bringing change intelligence and incident remediation into the development workflow via GitHub Actions.
Red Hat: Joe Fernandes, VP of Product for Cloud Platforms, sees Red Hat OpenShift as a flexible foundation for cloud-native development, with GitHub Actions complementing existing DevOps and GitOps capabilities.
ServiceNow: Marcus Torres, VP of Product Management, highlights new actions that bring GitHub capabilities into the Now Platformand App Engine developer experience.
Solidify: Magnus Timner, COO, credits the partnership with increased sales, knowledge, and brand attractiveness for customers and employees.
StackPulse: Leonid Belkind, Co-Founder and CTO, describes GitHub as the nerve center of modern development teams and a core part of delivering reliability “as code.”
Xpirit: Marcel de Vries, CTO, notes being GitHub’s first European partner is an acknowledgment of the company’s knowledge sharing values and amplifies its partnership with Microsoft.
