Bringing Smashing Workshops to Your Home Office
With workshop leaders and attendees alike staying home, Smashing is moving its live workshop experience online. The goal is to preserve the interactive elements that make in-person workshops valuable—live instruction, peer discussion, and direct access to experts—while adapting the format for remote participation.
The upcoming SmashingConf in San Francisco has been postponed to November 10–11, 2020. In the meantime, the team has prepared two online workshops, with the possibility of adding more based on demand. This also supports workshop leaders whose income has been affected by canceled in-person events.
Two Online Workshops to Start
Smart Interface Design Patterns
April 2–17, Thu & Fri, 9–11:30 AM PDT
Led by Vitaly Friedman.
This five-day workshop covers hundreds of hand-picked interface design examples. Sessions move through accordions, mega-drop-downs, sliders, feature comparisons, car configurators, timelines, and onboarding flows. Participants design interfaces together and receive feedback on their work. Each day runs about two hours.
CSS Layout Masterclass
April 14–15, Tue & Wed, 9–11:30 AM PDT
Led by Rachel Andrew.
Over two days, this workshop mixes CSS Layout theory with practical guidance on browser-support strategies. Attendees learn core layout skills they can apply directly to their projects.
Q&A Remains Core
A major reason people attend Smashing workshops is the opportunity to ask an expert about a specific problem. Each online workshop includes dedicated time for chat and Q&A, so participants can bring questions about their own work challenges and learn from other attendees' questions as well.
