A Creative Toolkit for Student Developers
GitHub has expanded its Global Campus and Student Developer Pack offerings with a new Aspiring Creatives Experience. Students with verified GitHub accounts can redeem the pack through the GitHub Global Campus Student Developer Pack.
Design
The visual foundation of any project sets the tone for everything that follows. The Aspiring Creatives Experience bundles several design resources to get you started. Iconscout and Icons8 provide icon libraries and interface assets, while Octicons offers GitHub's own icon set. For collaborative interface work, the pack includes access to Figma.
Brainstorm & Organize
Fresh perspectives can help unlock new directions for a stalled idea. FigJam, Figma's collaborative whiteboard tool, lets you pull team members into shared workspaces with synchronized tasks and checklists, so ideation and project planning stay in sync.
Showcase
Once a project takes shape, getting it in front of others is the next step. The GitHub Community Exchange is a hub within Global Campus where students can publicize their repositories and find peers working on projects that need collaborators or maintainers.
A Closer Look at the Figma Collaboration
GitHub Education has also hosted Figma Education's Lauren McCann on CampusTV to walk through the new offerings, including hackathon-specific design templates created by Campus Expert Vaishnavi Dwivedi.
The mini design systems for hackathons template targets student developers who hit a wall when styling their hackathon projects. It comes with pre-built color palettes, typography choices and simple wireframes that can accelerate the early design phase, letting teams focus on building. Students can reuse the framework for storyboarding, prototyping, final presentation and designer-developer handoff.
