A research-backed look at team collaboration
Figma says it interviewed more than 100 teams made up of designers, product managers, engineers, researchers, and writers to identify what separates successful collaboration from merely functional teamwork. The findings, published in What Makes Collaboration Click?, point to five behaviors that correlate with better product outcomes: co-creation, rapport, role clarity, feedback, and reflection. Figma’s Director of Product Research, Cristen Torrey, and Insights & Analysis Lead, Andrew Hogan, will expand on the research in a livestream discussion.
A fully localized product for Japan
Figma has rolled out a Japanese-language interface for its product and website, along with in-region support. The company has also staffed local leadership and opened an office in Japan, citing that 80% of its user base resides outside the U.S. The move is intended to better serve in-region users and grow the Figma Community in the country.
Community browsing and search get a refresh
Finding assets in the Figma Community has historically meant wading through a growing pile of files, plugins, and widgets. A reworked landing page now separates content by product (Figma or FigJam), use case (such as design systems), and resource type, making it easier to narrow down what you need. Search has also been upgraded with additional filters and sort options, including views for trending, most popular, and most recent resources—a change that should also surface creators’ contributions more prominently.
Workspaces become viewable org-wide
Workspaces on the Enterprise plan were introduced as a way for admins to bundle teams, people, and resources while managing Figma licenses. Now any member of an organization can browse content organized by workspace, allowing individuals to locate and concentrate on the projects most relevant to them without needing admin privileges. Additional guidance is available in the workspaces guide.
Community highlights for July
Several third-party integrations and community-built resources landed this month:
- Sprig: an integration that embeds Figma prototypes to capture detailed user feedback.
- Lingo: a digital asset manager that can import brand assets directly from Figma for easier organization and sharing.
- Giphy Stickers by Lichin: a widget for inserting searchable GIFs into Figma and FigJam files.
Figma points to its release notes and Twitter account for more granular updates throughout the month.
