Comments get a redesign in Figma and FigJam
Figma is rolling out a redesigned comment experience across Figma and FigJam over the next few weeks. The update aims to make feedback easier to discover, understand, and act on, so that more collaborators feel comfortable contributing and designers can keep working without losing context.
The changes address several friction points the team identified through user research: some collaborators did not realize comments existed, others left long, multi-question comments that were hard to parse, and designers struggled to view feedback while editing the canvas.
Lowering the barrier for new commenters
To bring more voices into the design process, the comment sidebar is now more visible to viewers opening a file, as well as in presentation mode for prototypes. This gives collaborators who are less familiar with Figma a clear, contextual entry point for adding feedback, instead of driving them to external tools.
Once they are ready to comment, the composer has been made smaller to encourage short, digestible messages. New reactions let teammates quickly express sentiment without adding noise to a thread, lowering the effort required to weigh in.
For broader or more conceptual questions, collaborators can highlight an area on the canvas to pin a comment that applies to multiple elements at once. This works for groups of stickies or several designs, keeping the feedback anchored to the right context.
Keeping feedback in view while working
Comment pins are now visible by default, so nothing slips by unseen. On hover, each pin shows the avatar of the person who commented along with a preview of the message. When several comments land in the same spot, they are grouped into clusters to prevent the canvas from being overwhelmed.
Designers can also keep relevant comment threads open while making edits directly on the canvas, eliminating the need to switch between views to incorporate feedback. A simplified scanning view makes it easy to spot where feedback is concentrated at a glance.
For larger batches of input, the comment list supports keyword search and filtering by person, and comments can be sorted by date. If a response can wait, marking a comment as unread creates a Reminder to return to it later.
Rolling out now
The new comment experience is rolling out to all users over the next several weeks. More documentation is available in the Figma Help Center, and Figma is collecting feedback through a dedicated submission form.
