March Wallpapers: Community Art With a Prize at the End
This month’s wallpaper collection marks a small milestone for our long-running series. What began over a decade ago as a simple way to offer fresh, inspiring desktop calendars has grown into a monthly showcase of creative work from designers and artists around the world — and this time, there’s an extra incentive to stand out.
In our February post, we teased a twist for the March edition: the best submission would earn a smashing prize. The response delivered a diverse batch of designs, all collected below alongside a few evergreen favorites from our archives that still hold up. But first, let’s get to the announcement you’re waiting for — the winning entry for March.

This Month’s Winner: Botanica
Russian designer Vlad Gerasimov takes the prize this month with Botanica, a wallpaper that reworks botanical illustration through a contemporary mix of color, shape, and texture. Gerasimov, who notes it had been nearly a year since his last wallpaper, also used the piece as a chance to experiment with Pixelmator Pro, an app he says has been “excellent so far.”
All standard desktop and mobile resolutions are available, both with and without a calendar overlay. Gerasimov wins a ticket to one of Vitaly Friedman’s upcoming online workshops: Designing The Perfect Navigation, New Adventures In Front-End, or Smart Interface Design Patterns.
Fresh Submissions For March
Thanks to everyone who submitted work for this month’s community challenge. Here are the designs that stood out.
March For Equality
PopArt Studio from Serbia marked International Women’s Day, reflecting on the gains made and the push for a more equal world. The studio notes that “these turbulent times” call for unity. Available with and without calendar in sizes up to 2560x1440.
St. Patrick’s Day
Ever Increasing Circles from the United Kingdom offers a toast to Ireland’s patron saint for the 17th. The wallpaper comes in calendar and no-calendar variants, including a 1080x1080 square option.
Spring In Moscow
Spanish designer Veronica Valenzuela Jimenez imagines Moscow beyond its wintry reputation. “But why not spring?” The wallpaper is provided as a PNG in resolutions from 640x480 to 2560x1440.
Smells Like Spring Spirit
Milica Aleksic from the United States looks ahead to the season, “cultivating a better future.” Sizes include a portrait-friendly 1080x1920 option alongside standard landscape resolutions.
Colorful March
Canadian designer Guylaine Couture went with bold colors and a handmade feel, “because it makes people smile.” Offered as JPEG, from 800x600 up to 2560x1440.
Earth Hour Day
Pedro Gonçalves from Portugal highlights Earth Hour, arguing that climate change makes such reminders essential: “we should do everything to help it.” The set spans 1280x800 to 2560x1440.
BatPig
Ricardo Gimenes from Sweden delivers a humorous take on the Bat-Signal, with a less speedy hero causing a backlog of messages. This one includes a 3840x2160 option for 4K displays.
Stay Home
Also from Ricardo Gimenes, this piece depicts the Dungeon Master from the 80s TV series Dungeons & Dragons, who is pleased that “these days everybody says ‘Stay at home’.” Available up to 3840x2160.
Learn To Fight Alone
Hitesh Puri from Delhi, India, shares a message about self-reliance: while bonds with family and friends matter, “you have to fight alone and this is how you become stronger every day.” Offered in both calendar and clean versions up to 2560x1440.
Tacos To The Moon And Back
A third entry from Ricardo Gimenes in Sweden, this playful design needs no further explanation. It supports resolutions from 640x480 through 3840x2160.
Spring Awakens A New Hope
LibraFire from Serbia sees the season as a turning point: “nature awakens, and along with it comes new hope that soon we will leave this difficult period behind.” Available with and without a calendar in PNG format.
Sail The Night Sky
Hannah Joy Patterson of South Carolina, USA, contributes this dreamy piece, available in both landscape and portrait orientations, topping out at 3000x2000.
The Archive: Past Favorites
Over the years, March has inspired everything from seasonal nature scenes to outright whimsy. These older community picks are back by popular demand — note that none of them include a calendar.
Bunny O’Hare
Heather Ozee from the United States puts an Irish spin on the month, pairing St. Patrick’s Day with her pet rabbit. “Erin go Braugh.” Sizes run from 320x480 to 2560x1440.
Wake Up!
Marek Kedzierski from Poland captures the muted early-spring thaw. “Instead of a purple crocus we have a purple bird-harbinger.” Available in several landscape resolutions up to 2560x1440.
Ballet
Ana Masnikosa from Belgrade, Serbia, created this piece to honor women: “A day, even a whole month, isn’t enough to show how much a woman should be appreciated.”
Queen Bee
Melissa Bogemans from Belgium celebrates the return of spring, birds, flowers, and bees. The wallpaper is available in a wide range of resolutions.
Questions
Marta Paderewska from Poland leans into her trademark doodle style for this philosophical piece. “Inspiring, isn’t it?” Sizes go up to 2560x1440.
The Unknown
Valentin Keleti from Romania draws a visual link “between the dark side and the unknown lighted and catchy area,” offered as JPEG across common screen sizes.

Nathalie Ouederni from France contributes this simple nature study, with versions for common desktop resolutions.

Igor Izhik from Canada predicts that plants will eventually “grow on some other planets too.” The set includes a widescreen 2560x1600 option.

Safia Begum from the United Kingdom marks March 2nd with a quote about learning, to honor the author’s legacy. Offered in 16:9 and 16:10 formats up to 2560x1440.
Awakening
Maria Keller from Mexico admits a preference for cold weather but welcomes spring’s “magical time” of reawakening color. Available in a full range of resolutions, including mobile dimensions.
Marching Forward!
Paul Bupe Jr from Statesboro, GA, explains that his orange dinosaur design buddy sits by his monitor at the office. “This is what happens when you have designer’s block and a DSLR.”

Andy Patrick from Canada encourages everyone to push toward their New Year’s resolutions, “be it getting a promotion, learning a skill or getting fit.” This is offered without a calendar only.
Never Leave Home Without Your Umbrella
Bailey Zaputil from the United States designed a pattern of holographic umbrellas, capturing “rain and light bouncing off an umbrella” in a fresh, patterned wallpaper.

Elisa de Castro Guerra from France showcases Ponta Negra beach in northeast Brazil, calling it one of the best in the world.
Daydream
Bruna Suligoj from Croatia offers a literal take on the term “daydream” — a visionary fantasy of pleasant, hopeful thoughts. Select resolutions are available.
