Figma moves file data into India, adds Governance+ for enterprises

Figma has announced two expansions aimed at enterprise customers in India: local data hosting is slated to begin in the country next quarter, and a new set of governance features, Governance+, is available starting today for Enterprise plan customers.

The announcements follow the opening of Figma's Bengaluru office in November and target India, which Figma describes as its second-largest active user base globally. The company notes that users in the country created over 35 million files between October 2024 and September 2025. Local data hosting is set to begin in Q1 2026, allowing enterprises to store file data—including content from FigJam, Make, Sites, Buzz, and Slides—within India. This extends Figma's existing data residency options in Australia, Europe, and the US, and is designed for regulated sectors like public services, healthcare, and finance, where data location requirements are more stringent.

"Hot on the heels of our Bengaluru office opening, we're continuing to invest in India," said Scott Pugh, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, Asia Pacific at Figma. "Local data storage and enhanced governance will open up Figma to even more companies in India."

Figma counts a number of major Indian companies among its customers, including Airtel, CARS24, Flipkart, Groww, Juspay, Myntra, Swiggy, TCS, and Zomato.

Governance+ capabilities

Governance+ is rolling out to all Enterprise customers and introduces three areas of control for managing data, security, and compliance:

  • Centralized control: Features such as IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions (NAR) aim to ensure employee Figma activity occurs within the proper instance and on approved networks, reducing the risk of data moving into personal or unauthorized spaces.
  • Account security: Enforced Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), Extended Idle Session Timeout, and support for Multiple Identity Providers (IdP) help protect against compromised accounts with approved access to organization content.
  • Data governance: The Discovery Pipeline provides visibility into Figma activity to help businesses meet electronic communication retention policies and legal discovery requirements.

These capabilities build on Figma's existing enterprise security controls, including activity logs, Single Sign-On (SSO), seat assignment via the Figma SCIM API, and the ability to restrict external collaborators from joining an organization.
