Figma Adds Enterprise Governance Suite, Readies Sydney Data Residency
Figma is expanding its enterprise offerings with a new set of governance tools, and has confirmed that Australian customers will soon be able to store their file data locally. The company expects to begin hosting file data—covering files across Figma, FigJam, Make, Sites, Buzz, and Slides—in Australia beginning in Q4 2025.
The move addresses demand from customers in regulated industries such as public sector, healthcare, and finance, where data security requirements are stricter. Figma states that Australia is one of its fastest-growing markets in the Asia Pacific region. The company opened its Sydney office in November 2024 and counts National Australia Bank (NAB), Safety Culture, and Atlassian among its local customers.
Australian data residency will mark Figma's first such offering in the region, extending a feature it already provides for enterprise users in Europe and the US. Customers will retain the same platform capabilities while gaining more control over the location of their data.

"This investment strengthens our commitment to Australia as we continue to prioritise the needs of our Australian customers."
Governance+ for Enterprise Security Controls
Alongside the data residency news, Figma is launching Governance+, available immediately to all Enterprise plan customers. The feature set adds controls across three areas:
- Centralised control: Administrators can restrict activity to designated instances and approved networks via IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions (NAR), preventing data from being shared to personal or unauthorised spaces.
- Account security: Enforced Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Extended Idle Session Timeout provide tighter account protection. Support for multiple SSO configurations is planned for a future release.
- Data governance: The Discovery Pipeline tool offers visibility into Figma activity, helping organisations comply with electronic communication retention policies and support legal discovery requests.
These capabilities build on existing enterprise security features, including action logs, SAML single sign-on, role assignment via identity management systems, and controls limiting external collaborators.
The digital design platform's focus on enterprise governance and local infrastructure reflects a broader strategy to appeal to organisations in regulated sectors. For NAB, for example, Figma is already central to its design workflow. "Designing simple, intuitive experiences for customers is essential to us at NAB, especially for our mobile apps and Internet banking where more than 98% of all customer interactions now occur," said Lance Thornswood, Chief Design Officer at NAB. "This initiative will expand the ways we can use the entire Figma suite to create even better experiences."
