Calculator Apps Still Look Like Cheap Plastic — and That’s a Problem
It’s odd that even the default calculator apps baked into desktop operating systems still cling to the UI and UX of those inexpensive plastic physical calculators. Florens Verschelde recalls a Math teacher who set a firm rule: pocket calculators had to display both your input and its result at the same time. If a calculator couldn’t show that—

= 31.666666666667—you simply couldn’t use it.
The article ultimately praises Soulver, which is indeed a clever modern take on calculations. Verschelde wishes it were available on Setapp and would likely use it then, but admits he doesn’t do enough regular math to justify the full price—at least for now.
