Why “a Little Bit Exposed” Doesn’t Exist

- Assess real impact: Shift focus from who accessed the data to what the data enables. Does the exposed source contain hardcoded credentials, internal architecture details, or logic that could be exploited? Conduct a security review based on the assumption that all of it is now public knowledge.
- Communicate transparently: Inform stakeholders, customers, and affected parties about the incident. Provide clear guidance on the steps you are taking and any actions they should consider, such as changing their own credentials if they were exposed.
- Consult legal counsel: A leak of proprietary code may trigger intellectual property or contractual obligations. Legal review early in the process helps avoid downstream disputes and ensures regulatory compliance.
