Figma adds EU hosting for file data
Figma has announced that customers can now opt to host their Figma and FigJam file data within the European Union. The move adds another data-residency option for teams that want the collaborative benefits of a cloud design platform while keeping their document content inside EU borders. It follows Figma’s compliance mark from the EU Cloud Code of Conduct last year.
EU hosting is available on Figma’s Enterprise plan. Existing Enterprise customers can join a waiting list for migration through their account manager.
Where and how data is stored
Figma is using its existing cloud infrastructure provider, AWS, for the localization effort. The primary hosting location for EU-bound file data is Frankfurt, Germany, with backup data hosted in Dublin, Ireland.
The offering starts with the document contents of Figma and FigJam files. As the company notes, some data types are easier to move than others. User metadata and login information are not part of the EU hosting scope, and some data in transit may be temporarily stored outside the EU for limited periods. Migration path for existing customers
Organizations already using Figma can move existing files from US-based hosting to the EU, provided they are on — or upgrade to — an Enterprise plan. Account managers will coordinate migration dates, and eligible customers can join the waiting list for data migration once their account is upgraded. Organizations on other plans can request an Enterprise demo.
Existing security and compliance framework
The EU residency project builds on Figma’s current security and data protection posture, which includes a SOC 2 Type II report, ISO 27018 and ISO 27001 certifications, and Level 2 adherence to the EU Cloud Code of Conduct.
