The 2025 State of HTML survey is open
The State of HTML survey is now live. The survey is designed to capture how developers actually use HTML and which features they want browser vendors to prioritize next.
This year’s edition was curated by Lea Verou. It covers 31 new web platform features and extends well beyond markup. As Verou explained when requesting input on the survey’s design:
While the title is “State of HTML”, anything that wouldn’t fit better in State of CSS or State of JS is fair game. This includes topics such as accessibility, browser APIs, web components, templating, static site generation, media formats, and more. This may seem strange at first, but is no different than how the HTML specification itself covers a lot more than just HTML markup.
Survey results feed directly into browser roadmap discussions and add weight to proposals for the Interop project. To track how those discussions evolve, the Web Platform Status Dashboard maintains a view of the top issues raised each year, such as the top Interop issues identified from the 2024 survey.
There’s also an immediate benefit to participating: each survey includes a reading list where you can flag features you’d like to learn more about. Many developers report discovering features they didn’t know existed simply by browsing the survey. The list from last year’s respondents is available to review.
