React Single File Components Have Arrived
Shawn Wang has highlighted that RedwoodJS now offers what he calls "the first time React components are being expressed in a single file format with explicit conventions."
This manifests through RedwoodJS's Cells feature, which presents a cleaner alternative to how Apollo structures data fetching with useQuery. Wang draws the same parallel, and given that RedwoodJS builds on Apollo, it comes across as polished syntactic sugar layered on top.
RedwoodJS bundles plenty beyond that, and while calling it a "highly opinionated stack" is fair, Tom noted on ShopTalk that it deliberately avoids the Rails paradigm. That's no knock on Rails—the point is that modern tooling opens up fresh, sustainable approaches that keep software healthy over the long haul.
