Zero Divs: Drawing Shapes with Nothing but Backgrounds
Joan Perals has put together zerodivs.com, a clever take on the single-element drawing challenge popularized by projects like Lynn’s A Single Div. The trick relies on multiple hard-stop background-image gradients, letting you render any number of shapes without introducing extra markup. Each gradient layer follows its own stacking order, so drawing with backgrounds becomes a pure CSS exercise.
The tool also stores your drawing identifiers in localStorage, giving you basic create, read, update, and delete behavior straight in the browser. That bit of persistence arguably puts the whole thing just a step away from running as an offline PWA.
