Zaraz Pricing Overhaul: A Simpler, Volume-Based Model

Cloudflare has revised the pricing model for its Zaraz tag management solution, responding to user feedback about the original pricing structure announced when the product exited beta in July 2023. The new model, effective April 15, 2024, replaces pageview-based charges with a more straightforward event-based system that aims to be more predictable and affordable. The announcement also lifts all premium feature restrictions, making the full Zaraz feature set available across all plan tiers.

From Pageviews to Zaraz Events

The core change is the introduction of Zaraz Events as the pricing metric. A Zaraz Event is defined as any event sent to the service—including pageviews, zaraz.track events, and similar payloads—making it agnostic to the underlying tech stack. This matters for modern websites: as single-page applications become more common, the semantic of a "pageview" becomes increasingly ambiguous. Events provide a more consistent measure regardless of whether traffic comes from a traditional page load, a client-side SPA, or via the Zaraz HTTP API.

Users can track their current usage in the Monitoring section of the Cloudflare Zaraz dashboard, which displays the total number of events processed each month.

Predictable Costs for High Volume

Every Cloudflare account starts with 1,000,000 free Zaraz Events per month. Beyond that threshold, each additional 1,000,000 events costs $5 USD, with volume discounts available for Enterprise accounts. According to Cloudflare, the pricing intent is to keep the service economically viable for high-traffic sites that might otherwise need more expensive, dedicated tag management platforms.

Full Feature Access on All Plans

Under the new system, there are no longer "premium" features locked behind higher-tier plans. Previously advanced capabilities are now available to every user, from Free to Enterprise. This includes:

  • Custom HTTP requests
  • The Consent Management API
  • Loading custom Managed Components
  • Configuring custom endpoints
  • The Preview & Publish Workflow
  • Zaraz Ecommerce features

Cloudflare frames this as an effort to let users maximize the value of Zaraz regardless of website size. The company also confirmed that all tools have completed their migration to Managed Components—a modular format that gives admins granular control over tool permissions. For example, a tool can be prevented from making client-side network requests or storing cookies. Additionally, the Zaraz Context Enricher allows custom data processing within a Cloudflare Worker, enabling use cases such as attaching internal CRM data to outgoing payloads or automatically masking email addresses and other personally-identifiable information before any external provider receives it.

Cloudflare notes that Zaraz remains a one-click installation with no server setup required, leveraging the company's edge network for low-latency delivery. The new pricing takes effect on April 15, 2024, and the company acknowledges the earlier feedback that led to this iteration, expressing hope that the revised structure will make Zaraz's cost profile more appealing to a broader range of users.
