WooCommerce Payments Adds Subscriptions and Saved Cards

WooCommerce Payments, the free payment gateway plugin introduced with WooCommerce 4.0, has expanded its feature set. The plugin previously handled standard one-time transactions. Now it also supports recurring billing through WooCommerce Subscriptions and lets customers store their payment details for future purchases.

The update is significant for store owners who want to sell membership-based or subscription products without relying on a third-party checkout experience. All payment activity remains inside the WordPress dashboard, including subscription renewals and dispute management.

Recurring revenue for any product

WooCommerce Subscriptions transforms any product in the catalog into something that can be billed on a recurring basis. That flexibility means a store could sell an annual publication renewal, a monthly curated product club, or even accept installment payments for high-ticket items.

With WooCommerce Payments now integrated into that system, recurring transactions flow through the same reporting and tracking tools as regular sales. Store operators can monitor cash flow and handle payment disputes directly from WordPress, without needing to switch to a separate interface.

Speeding up repeat purchases

The saved credit card feature works across both one-time and subscription purchases. Customers who opt to store their payment information during an initial transaction can bypass re-entering those details on future orders. This applies to ordinary products and recurring plans alike.

Both capabilities arrive in the same plugin, so there is no additional extension to configure beyond WooCommerce Payments itself. The plugin remains free to install and use; charges are applied only per transaction.
