Cloudflare’s New Chief Customer Officer on Scaling Service

Customer service is often treated as a back-office function at enterprise companies. At Cloudflare, it is central to how the company approaches growth. I’ve joined as Chief Customer Officer at a moment when the company is shifting from its explosive early expansion—nearly 3 million customers and thousands of enterprise accounts in just a decade—into a phase where operational consistency matters as much as technical innovation.

The product story at Cloudflare has always been about performance and security: Universal SSL, HTTP/2, TLS 1.3, HTTP/3. But the reason I took this role is the company’s focus on what it does for the businesses that rely on it. Cloudflare’s customers span every vertical—food delivery, financial services, GPS hardware, and more. They range from small startups to global enterprises. The mission of building a better Internet is not marketing language here; it’s the guiding principle for every team, including mine.

Service as an Engineering Discipline

The Customer Success Team is structured less like a traditional support desk and more like a technical operations unit. It includes Customer Success Managers, Solution Engineers, Solution Architects, Senior Support Engineers, and Escalation Engineers. The team runs 24x7 globally, monitoring for attacks on customer properties and intervening proactively rather than waiting for tickets.

My background is in exactly this kind of work. I’ve spent most of my career in networking and security companies—Palo Alto Networks, RedLock Security, and CipherCloud—where I oversaw customer success and all post-sales activities. Before that, I worked as a management consultant at Ernst & Young and Tata Consultancy Services. The through-line has always been helping customers realize value from technology.

What Comes Next

The immediate priorities are expanding the delivery capabilities of the team worldwide and deepening the advisory relationship with customers. That means more value-added services, tailored adoption workshops, best-practice sessions, digital assets, and enhanced proactive monitoring. The goal is to help Cloudflare’s customers grow faster while keeping their Internet properties secure, reliable, and fast.

We’ve already earned a high level of trust from customers, but the bar is set higher. As the company grows, the service model has to grow with it. Expect more announcements about improvements to that model in the coming months. For now, feedback is welcome—we are, as the company likes to say, in this together.
