GitHub Sponsors Expands to Malta and Cyprus
GitHub Sponsors has added Malta and Cyprus to its list of supported regions, bringing the total to 34 since the program launched just over a year ago. The expansion continues GitHub's push to make the sponsorship platform available in every region where GitHub operates.
The program has already produced notable milestones, including maintainer Caleb Porzio reaching $100k per year through sponsor funding. As more regions come online, GitHub expects to see similar success stories emerge from a broader international community.
Anyone in a region not yet supported can join the waitlist to receive updates on availability.
Recent Platform Updates
Beyond the regional expansion, GitHub has shipped several updates to Sponsors over the past few months:
- Sponsored organizations have exited beta, allowing organizations to receive sponsorships alongside individual maintainers.
- Sponsorship export lets users download a list of their sponsorship transactions for record-keeping or accounting.
- Featured work gives maintainers the ability to showcase selected public repositories directly on their Sponsors profile.
- Funding goals can now be shared with sponsors to communicate progress toward specific targets.
- Availability was extended to Mexico, the Czech Republic, Malta, and Cyprus.
