COVID-19 Response Projects From Our Developer Community
As a remote-first company, our day-to-day operations have been largely unaffected by the pandemic. Beyond our regular work, we've focused on supporting our team and families through virtual game nights, group meditation, and regular check-ins.
We also believe we have a responsibility to help our communities. With that in mind, we're stepping away from our usual product-focused content to highlight what developers in the Next.js and Vercel community have built in response to COVID-19.
In the past 72 hours alone, community members have created more than 2,500 COVID-19 related sites that have generated over 150 million requests. These projects range from critical information hubs to outbreak prevention tools and resources that help keep people safe. Some particularly notable examples track case numbers in specific countries, including Italy, the Czech Republic, Peru, and The Philippines.
A key theme across these efforts is the lesson in preparedness that this crisis has taught us all. The capacity of hospitals alone is not enough to handle an emergency of this scale. Developers have a supporting role to play alongside doctors and nurses by ensuring timely access to actionable information and building new ways for people to connect and collaborate while maintaining physical distance.
One such project is predictcovid.com, created by Lachlan Campbell. As the site's creator points out, the critical lack of access to COVID-19 testing across the country prevents us from knowing exactly how many people are infected.
No one anticipated this crisis, yet the developer community has risen to the challenge by leveraging the internet to unlock new ways to connect, inform, and share. It's an inspiring response, and we're proud to have played a small role in enabling these achievements. This aligns with our long-standing goal: empowering every developer to launch, iterate, and ship new products quickly.
