GitHub ¡Presente! Brings a Spanish-Language Virtual Event to Latin America

GitHub has announced its next virtual event for Latin America: GitHub ¡Presente! in Spanish. The first edition takes place on Tuesday, September 22nd at 16:00 UTC-5 (Mexico City time). The event is hosted by Alexandra Bourne, Technical Project Manager, and Jaime Sanchez, Enterprise Support Engineer, both leaders of the Octogatos Employee Resource Group (ERG), GitHub’s group for employees who identify as Latinx. They will be joined by colleagues from GitHub’s Engineering and Product teams.

Five invited speakers will cover a range of topics from automation and security to development environments and AI:

  • Froilán Irizarry Rivera (@froidotdev) will discuss GitHub Actions and how to automate processes using Actions in repositories and other areas of GitHub.
  • Agustin Gianni (@agustingianni) will introduce CodeQL and demonstrate how to use it to find security issues in open source code.
  • Miguel Ángel Durán García (@midudev) will deliver a deep-dive into GitHub Codespaces, showing how users can develop from any machine, including using Visual Studio Code on a tablet.
  • Valeria Viva (@valeriaviva) will present on artificial intelligence and how it can amplify our biases—racial, gender, and others—and what we can do to contribute to a more egalitarian world.
  • Rafael Lagunas Guitrón will talk about how software development can help solve unresolved sociocultural and economic problems, and how this work can aid professional development.

The event will close with dedicated time for chatting and networking, where attendees can speak directly with GitHub team members and others with shared interests.
