Vercel names 28 projects for summer open-source cohort
Vercel's Open Source Program, launched in April with its spring 2025 cohort, has now selected 28 projects for its summer intake. The program provides maintainers with resources, credits, and support for development and scaling. The summer list spans AI utilities, developer tooling, and UI libraries.
Developer tools and infrastructure
Several projects in the cohort target core developer workflows. Mobx, a state management library for JavaScript, reports over 28k GitHub stars and nearly 2M weekly npm downloads. Electerm is a cross-platform terminal for SSH, SFTP, and serial connections, with file transfer support and more than 12k stars. Pigsty is a local-first PostgreSQL distribution positioned as an alternative to managed databases, with 4k+ stars.
Other infrastructure picks include Motia, a backend framework for building APIs, events, and agents, and Inbound, an email service for developers that exposes messages via webhooks. Invoicely focuses on freelancer-friendly invoice creation, while Toolwind serves as a registry for Tailwind CSS plugins. OSS.Now is a platform for showcasing and discovering open-source projects.
AI and productivity apps
The cohort includes several AI-driven projects. Taskmaster is an AI-powered task management system approaching 20k GitHub stars. Tutor GPT is an adaptive AI tutor. Analog is an AI-first calendar that learns scheduling patterns. Inbox Zero is an open-source AI assistant for email cleanup, with over 8.4k stars. Dysperse offers task creation and AI-powered labeling, and Resume Matcher tailors job searches to match a developer's skillset, at over 20k stars.
UI components and styling
Design-focused projects are well represented. Nativewind brings Tailwind CSS to React Native, with 6k+ stars. React Native Reusables also targets React Native, offering components built with Nativewind and shadcn/ui, optimized for accessibility. 8bitcn/ui is a retro-themed component library with an 8-bit aesthetic and over 600 stars. Fancy Components is a UI library with 2.1k stars. Spectrum UI offers copy-pasteable components and has nearly 1k stars. React Wheel Picker is a lightweight mobile-style picker for React forms.
Other selections include OpenCut, a browser-based video editor styled like CapCut with over 27k stars; Workout Cool, a workout planning tool at 5.2k stars; Ikiform, an open-source Google Forms alternative; Kanba and Circle, self-hostable task and issue trackers; Alinea, a Git-based CMS for Next.js; Bounty, a job platform for developers; and SimpMusic, a minimalist music player.
