Token-based metering replaces message counts
v0 is moving from fixed message counts to a token-based pricing model. Usage is now calculated on input and output tokens, which are converted into credits. The change is designed to make costs more predictable as your usage scales, while also expanding what’s available on the free tier.
New users are on the updated model starting today. Existing users will be migrated automatically at the beginning of their next billing cycle, with no action required on their part.
Monthly credit allowances by plan
Every v0 plan now includes a monthly credit balance:
- Free: $5 in included credits per month
- Premium: $20 in included credits per month
- Team: $30 in included credits per user, per month
Premium, Team, and Enterprise plans can purchase additional credits as needed. Purchased credits are valid for one year and can be shared across a team on Team and Enterprise plans. Existing Enterprise contracts are unaffected.
How credits are consumed
Credits are deducted based on the input and output tokens required to generate a response. Longer prompts and larger outputs naturally consume more tokens, so the cost of an action scales with its complexity.
When generating responses, v0 may include relevant context such as chat history, source files, and Vercel-specific knowledge. That context counts toward input tokens, which means higher-quality responses can incur higher token usage.
Example prompts illustrate the range:
- “Which rendering strategy should I use for my app?” — small input, small output, low token usage
- “Build me a crypto app with a dark mode theme” — medium input, large output, higher token usage
- “Generate a multi-page app with a Supabase backend and authentication that incorporates the design from this screenshot” — large input from a large attachment, large output, even higher token usage
Tracking your usage
You can monitor token consumption and remaining credits from the settings page. Team and Enterprise owners can view usage across their entire team.
