April Showers Bring Fresh Wallpapers

Another month, another collection of community-crafted desktop wallpapers. For April 2021, designers from around the world have created a fresh batch of artwork, each piece offered in versions with and without a calendar overlay. Every wallpaper is free to download in a variety of common screen resolutions.

The monthly series has been running for over a decade, with each edition built on contributions submitted by the community. Experienced professionals and aspiring artists alike are encouraged to share their own designs for future installments.

This month's theme was left entirely to the artists themselves. The resulting designs cover a range of moods and inspirations, from cityscapes to quiet moments — all intended to bring a bit of visual energy to your screen. Alongside the new work, a handful of past favorites are also included below for those who want a trip down memory lane.

A Tribute to Novi Sad

The design from PopArt Studio pays homage to Novi Sad, Serbia, which was named the European Capital of Culture for 2021. While the official festivities may be postponed to 2022, the city's cultural spirit remains constant. The artwork captures Novi Sad's blend of traditions and energy — from Fruška Gora hiking trails and Danube quay picnics to the urban nightlife of Laze Telečkog and the global sounds of the Exit festival.

"Novi Sad welcomes you with its diversity, uniqueness, and passion," the designers note.

Back To The Vault

Some designs never really leave the rotation, and a few April standbys have earned their place in the archives. Whether it is the first bloom of spring, a nod to a historic anniversary, or simply a cheerful palette, these older favorites still hold up well on a desktop or phone screen.

April Flowers

“While April showers usually bring May flowers, we thought we all deserved flowers a little early this year. During a stressful time in the world, spending time thinking about others is an antidote to some of the uncertainty. We thought this message, Lift Others Up, reflected the energy the world needs.” - Designed by Mad Fish Digital from Portland, Oregon.

For a Rainy Day

Sakura petals and spring blooms dominate, but plenty of designs draw on that other April hallmark: rain. And a few others pay tribute to anniversaries and cultural touchpoints.

Purple Rain

“This month is International Guitar Month! Time to get out your guitar and play. As a graphic designer/illustrator seeing all the variations of guitar shapes begs to be used for a fun design. Search the guitar shapes represented and see if you see one similar to yours, or see if you can identify some of the different styles that some famous guitarists have played (BTW, Prince’s guitar is in there and purple is just a cool color).” — Designed by Karen Frolo from the United States.
