Dropbox Prize Goes to Paratrooper at TNW Hack Battle
At The Next Web Europe conference in Amsterdam, Dropbox sponsored the Hack Battle hackathon and offered a prize for the most creative use of the Dropbox API. The winning entry, Paratrooper, solves the common problem of wrangling photos from a group event.
The all-Dutch team behind Paratrooper—Jan Deelstra, Tom de Vries, Luuk Hartsema, and Lars Bekkema—works together at HackerOne, where they help companies like Yahoo, Twitter, Dropbox, and government agencies find vulnerabilities in their systems through friendly hacking. Their hackathon project takes a different approach to collaboration.
The core idea is straightforward: instead of manually collecting photos from everyone at a party or festival, Paratrooper automatically gathers images taken at the same location within a specific time window. When users snap photos with the app, those images are uploaded to a shared Dropbox folder, letting every contributor pull the shots they want.
