Rebuilding Tekla’s commerce stack for scale

Danish bedding brand Tekla needed more from its ecommerce setup. As traffic grew, the company sought to deliver faster, more personalized shopping experiences without compromising reliability. Agilo, the digital agency behind the project, saw an opportunity to modernize the entire backend and frontend foundation.

The result: a full migration from Gatsby Cloud and WooCommerce to Vercel and Medusa. The change gave Tekla better site performance, stronger support, and the ability to own the full commerce experience—from checkout to returns and exchanges—something difficult to achieve with a standard ecommerce platform.

Why Tekla moved off WooCommerce and Gatsby Cloud

Agilo’s decision to move Tekla off Gatsby Cloud came down to slow, buggy builds. The new platform needed to handle high traffic volumes and deliver consistent performance, but also had to be flexible and scalable for evolving ecommerce needs. Deployment speed on Vercel was an added benefit.

On the commerce side, the team replaced WooCommerce with Medusa. This shift enabled a composable architecture that works across Tekla’s sales channels and keeps development cycles short. Together, Vercel and Medusa formed a stack that could grow with the business.

For Agilo, Next.js and Vercel are now the recommended stack for many client projects. Tools like Vercel Analytics and Monitoring help the team track site performance and identify improvement areas, ensuring the products they ship meet performance goals.

The next step: full Next.js adoption

Tekla’s storefront currently runs on GatsbyJS alongside other open-source tools, but the team plans to move to Next.js for faster deployments on Vercel. Pairing Medusa with Vercel’s serverless and edge technology would let Tekla deliver personalized user experiences without sacrificing speed or performance. The migration is expected to improve the customer experience, driving higher engagement and sales.
