Interop 2024: Proposal Window Is Open
The Interop project is back for another year, and the first phase is now open: browser vendors and other partners are collecting feature proposals for Interop 2024 from the wider web community.
Interop is the cross-browser effort that began with Interop 2022, where major browser vendors and stakeholders tackled the top browser compatibility issues reported by web developers. That process was repeated for Interop 2023, which is still running but has already registered significant score improvements. The 2023 cycle also introduced public proposal submissions, yielding suggestions that reflected the needs of the broader ecosystem.
Many participating features have now achieved true interoperability, and the project is returning for 2024. The proposal process is open until October 5, 2023. Suggestions can cover features that currently behave inconsistently across browsers, or those not yet implemented everywhere. Because the goal is interoperability rather than new specification work, submissions with solid specifications and web platform tests stand a better chance of being accepted.
After the submission window closes, the proposals are reviewed by browser vendors and other partners to settle on the final focus area list. Given the constraints of a single year, it is likely that more high-quality proposals will arrive than can be completed, so some will not make the cut. All submissions are public and can be tracked as they come in.
