Interop 2023 focus areas: call for proposals
The browser interoperability effort that began with Interop 2022 is continuing, and the proposal period for Interop 2023 is now open. Following the progress already made through the collaborative work of the major browser vendors, the project now shifts to identifying which compatibility issues to tackle next.
The Chrome team, alongside other browser vendors and ecosystem partners, has been driving this initiative since 2019, starting with the MDN Developer Needs Assessment survey. The focus for 2023 will again be on improving the top browser compatibility issues that developers have identified, building on the results seen in the 2022 results.
How to submit
Anyone can submit a proposal for a focus area. The most useful suggestions will address one of two situations: features that behave differently across browsers, or features that are not yet implemented everywhere. Proposals with strong specifications and existing web platform tests stand a better chance of being selected, since the goal is achieving interoperability rather than designing new functionality.
Submissions are made via a template for focus area proposals and will be accepted until October 15, 2022.
Selection process
After the submission window closes, browser vendors and partners will review the list of proposals and agree on the final set of focus areas for 2023. It is expected that there will be more worthwhile proposals than the team can deliver within the year, so some quality suggestions may not make the cut. The final Interop 2023 list will be published here once the program kicks off.
