Stripe expands to five more European markets
Stripe has opened its full payments platform to businesses in the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Malta. The expansion brings the total number of countries in which Stripe is generally available to 39, with 29 of those in Europe.
The rollout was driven largely by work from Stripe’s European engineering hub, which has been operating since 2018. Teams there handled integration with local financial institutions and extended product support for the newly covered markets. Stripe says the expansion reflects feedback from beta customers in the region, including companies such as MEWS, Ramon Nastase, Aesthetic by Science, and Mana.
The company notes that the push into Central and Eastern Europe comes at a time when the pandemic has accelerated the move to online commerce. Stripe reports that European entrepreneurs in the newly supported areas have already processed hundreds of millions of euros in payments on the platform during recent months. Stripe says it continues to work toward making its services available to all businesses across Europe.
