Spotify Takes Home CNCF’s Top End User Award Again

At KubeCon + CloudNativeCon in Chicago this week, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) named Spotify the recipient of its Top End User Award. The recognition marks the second time Spotify has earned the honor, following its initial win in 2021.

According to the company, the repeat acknowledgment reflects a sustained push into cloud native adoption and open source involvement since the first award. Spotify points to the evolution of Backstage into a widely used standard for internal developer portals and developer experience as a key milestone in that period.

Contributions Measured in Thousands

The company also highlighted its continued activity across the cloud native ecosystem. In 2023 alone, Spotify engineers logged more than 23,000 contributions to CNCF projects, including Envoy and Kubernetes.

The award is decided by a vote of more than 150 of Spotify’s peers within the CNCF community, a fact the company notes with particular appreciation given the scope of the recognition. Spotify says it views the award as validation of its ongoing commitment to both the cloud native ecosystem and the broader open source community.
