July Desktop Wallpapers: Community Art for the Season

With July approaching, it's time once again for Smashing Magazine's monthly community wallpaper collection — a tradition that has now run for over 15 years. Designers and artists from around the world have contributed original desktop wallpapers that capture the distinctive atmosphere of the season, from summer storms and moonlit skies to quiet moments by the water.

As always, contributors were given complete creative freedom with no theme restrictions. The works below reflect each artist's personal interpretation of the month, and each image is available for free download in a wide range of resolutions, with and without a calendar overlay. Note: The themes and designs are entirely the artists' own. Smashing Magazine does not influence the subject matter of the submissions.

PopArt Studio from Novi Sad, Serbia, contributed a design inspired by the hidden rhythms underlying everyday life — the circular movement visible in light through water, falling leaves, and shared moments of stillness. The piece presents balance not as a static state but as a continuous, flowing motion.

For those counting down to time off, Veronica Valenzuela from Spain offers an underwater escape to Australia. The design leans into the idea of enjoying days and nights more fully when at the beach, diving among coral reefs without limits.

The heat of summer inspired Croatian designer Marijana Pivac's “Heated Mountains,” a wallpaper whose entire palette is built around warm-weather tones.

For Canadian designer Igor Izhik, July carries a personal weight: it is both his birthday month and the season for the best cherries. That combination of celebration and summer fruit drives “Summer Never Ends.”

Spain's Ricardo Gimenes contributes “Good Night,” a design that offers a quiet close to the day.

July's weather is not all sun. From India, DMS Software offers “Riding In The Drizzle,” a contemplation of the monsoon season. The accompanying text frames rain as a source of renewal: “Rain has come, showering the existence with new seeds of life. Everywhere life is blooming, as if they were asleep and the falling music of raindrops have awakened them.”

A Pair of Summer Scenes

Two more community-designed wallpapers round out the July collection. Erik Neumann from Germany offers "Summer Moon," a design that pairs the season's long days with a lunar focal point. Ricardo Gimenes from Spain contributes "Surfer Cat," a playful illustration that captures a feline riding a wave.

A larger set of display sizes is available for "Surfer Cat" without the calendar, spanning from 640x480 up to 4K at 3840x2160.
