In-Person SmashingConfs Return in 2022
After two years of fully online events, Smashing teams up with live audiences once more. SmashingConf will run in person in San Francisco and Austin in June, Freiburg, Germany in September, and New York in October. The online workshops and conference streams aren't going away, but the 2022 calendar marks the return of real-world gatherings alongside them.
Organizers stress that the in-person events will only proceed on safe terms. All conferences are restricted to vaccinated attendees, with local Covid-19 regulations followed closely at each venue.
What to Expect from the Lineup
The conference format stays true to previous years: a single track over two days, with six sessions per day, featuring 13 speakers. Expect front-end development, accessibility, UX and design content, with practical, hands-on sessions and full English captioning. Early speaker announcements for the San Francisco edition include Brad Frost, Miriam Suzanne, Cassie Evans, Pablo Stanley, Sarah Drasner and Farai Madzima.

The SF gathering offers both in-person and online attendance options. Full conference registration with in-person access runs $649 for early birds, with only 50 tickets at that price. Pure online access is $200, including video recordings after the event. Members save up to $150 on conference passes and $50 on online-only tickets.
Workshops Around the Conferences
Full-day, in-person workshops are scheduled for the days immediately before and after each conference. Focus areas include web performance, accessibility, front-end engineering and design patterns for complex UI. Attendees who bundle one or two workshops with a conference ticket get a discount on the combined price. Final workshop lineups are still under development.
Remote participants can still catch all live sessions and get post-event recordings, with captioning included, through the online stream. Smashing's standalone online workshops also remain available.
