GitHub Game Off 2021 Kicks Off in November
Game Off, GitHub's annual month-long game jam, returns this November. Unlike weekend hackathons, participants get the entire month to build a game from scratch. The format is open: work solo or in a team, and pick whatever programming languages, game engines, libraries, or assets fit your project.
The theme will be revealed on November 1 at 13:37 PT. From that moment, you have 30 days to design and ship a game around the prompt. Last year’s theme, MOONSHOT, produced a wide range of entries: an adaptation of Un voyage dans la Lune, 8-bit lunar racing, catapulting cats to the moon, interplanetary pool, a roguelike, and pixel-art puzzles—each built with different tooling and creative interpretations.
Where to Get Started
New to game jams? The Game Off website lists resources to help you begin. For community support, the official forum and Discord server are open for introductions, questions, and teaming up with other participants.
Registration is open now on itch.io. Joining early ensures you’ll be notified the moment the theme drops on November 1.
